"To Err is Human"

Off Centered Coins occur when the planchet (Copper bland from which a coin is stamped) is left hanging against the collar of the coin press outside of the die, causing the die to only partially strike the planchet. Hence, an off center "error" coin is created. Such pieces are never entirely round and they are always a little more than a "whole" since the portion beneath the die expands under pressure of the blow.
